From electric hot water tank systems to solar power hot water systems, you’ll find an option that will meet your needs and save energy.
When it’s time for a water heater replacement, there are many things to take into consideration. Everest Drain and Plumbing is ready to help. Before you buy a new water heater, make sure to decide which system best fits your family’s needs. Fortunately, the team of experts at Everest Plumbing is ready to help you with the things you’ll need to choose from, including which type of system is best for your water heating needs, how big your water heater tank should be, which system is energy efficient and which versions are within your budget.
The electric hot water system is an energy-efficient way to heat hot water. The electric water heating companies have developed a safe, reliable, and cost-effective range of instantaneous and store water heaters that will suit most applications. There are so many sizes and types of electric water heaters ideal for residential properties, commercial properties, new building sites, and any situation that requires instant hot water.
The gas hot water system is one of the most economical and cost-effective types of water heaters when operated on natural gas. Unlike tank hot water systems, where you run out of hot water once you’ve used up pre-heated hot water from your tank, gas hot water systems are developed to heat the water whenever you turn on the tap removing the chance of your hot water running out. Moreover, as you won’t have a large tank of water constantly being heated and water starts heating only when a tap is turned on then this could greatly reduce your power bill. Furthermore, a tankless water system is space-saving too and can have a constant hot water facility.
Getting hot water through a solar heating system is cost-effective. It consists of heat collectors and a storage tank. Solar water heaters absorb the heat from the sun, transfer it through the tubes to the heat exchanger in the heating tank. Solar-powered water heaters often come with a backup system, so you can have warm water when sunlight is not available. Similarly, with a solar power system, you could also save a great deal on your monthly energy bill. Solar panels are generally fitted to the roof where they receive the most sunlight. They are also installed at ground level facing the sun, but the best option will always be the location where the heat collectors are most exposed to the sun.
The heat pump hot water system is a very innovative and energy-efficient water heating system approved by Energy Star. In this heating system, the heat is drawn from the surrounding air. The design is such that, this air is compressed to such a degree which results in the rise in the temperature of the air. It is this pressurized air which heats the water in the copper pipe in the tank. It is a clean way of having your water heated and is very cost-effective in the long run.

Awarded in 2021 for an Outstanding Toronto Plumber by Homestars
Following are a few of the most common water heater issues most homeowners face in Toronto.
The most common type of water heater issue is water leakage. Sometimes, as by nature, water will eventually corrode your tank and create microscopic cracks or fractures causing the water heater to leak. But, this isn’t always a sign of your tank leakage. If the leak is arising from the top of your tank, this could be a sign that your water connections are loose. Ensure your cold water inlet pipes and hot water out pipes are both solidly connected and not rattling or loose in some form. If the leak is coming from the bottom, you could have an issue with condensation, which can be solved by turning up the thermostat. Inspect if you have water spilling out from your overflow pipe or pressure relief valve. And this is a sign of tank corrosion, which means you need to replace your water heater ASAP.
Have a tank full of water but none of it seems to be hot? Then, there might be an issue with your heat source. If you have an electric water tank, this means your heating elements could have failed or there are some defects in the electrical connection. If your water heater system is of gas, this could be a bad pilot light or a faulty gas connection. If your pilot light is lit but the gas doesn’t ignite, then you could have an issue with your burner as a whole which needs repairing.
Strange Smelling coming from Hot Water
If you suspect a strange smell when you turn on your hot water, then there’s a chance your tank may have a buildup of bacteria. Heat the temperature to above 140 degrees Fahrenheit and any bacteria in the tank should die off due to the extreme heat. After all, make sure you don’t use your hot water while running this service, as water that hot could cause serious burn injuries if your bare skin is exposed to it. Wait few hours for the temperature to drop again before running any hot water. If the problem repeats then you may need to call a professional to have your tank cleaned.
If you feel like your water heater takes way too long to reheat, then you could have one of several other problems. Maybe your thermostat isn’t generating enough energy to heat your water quickly enough. Similarly, you may also have a problem with your gas connection, for example, poor gas pressure, a dirty vent flue, or a dirty burner orifice that prevents proper gas flow. Cleaning and dusting these parts can solve the problem.
Generally, a water heater taking too long to reheat is a problem of a water heater not having enough capacity or being too old to service a home. It drains itself out and never gets a proper chance to fully refill and reheat before being used, leading to cold water flowing through the system. Due to this, your water heater never heats up again, when in fact it just hasn’t had enough time.
If your home is old, then the biggest limiter to water pressure might be smaller. Whereas, modern homes use larger plumbing capable that handles greater water pressure. The only way to solve this issue in an older home is to repipe your water tank system. And that’s no small task.
However, if you do have modern plumbing in your home, you may be able to increase your water pressure by ensuring that the aerators in your sink haven’t become clogged which they do overtime. Also, do not forget to check your water inlet valve to make sure it hasn’t accidentally become partially closed.
Are you experiencing inconsistent water temperatures in your heater? Is the water too hot or not hot enough? This may be the sign that your thermostat is having problems. You may need to replace your thermocouple or clean it to get it sensing temperatures properly again. However, water that’s too cold may be due to an issue in the indicator of a gas flow. If your gas flow is insufficient for your needs, then your burner won’t be able to adequately heat the water in your tank.
