Water Main & Fire Main Replacement

Everest Drain and Plumbing has finished a whole underground water main and fire line replacement in a multi-unit residential building at 390 Sentinel Road in North York, Toronto. The project involved extensive excavation, removal of existing galvanized piping, and complete system replacement with AWWA C900 PVC piping.

Project Overview

The existing infrastructure—composed of galvanized iron piping—was heavily corroded, outdated, and posed a high risk for leaks, pressure drops, and non-compliance with modern standards. A full upgrade was needed to ensure the property had reliable water supply and a safe fire protection system.

Excavation & Ground Prep
Excavated approx. 40 feet from the building to the property line (6 ft wide, 4–6 ft deep).
Managed excess groundwater using a sump pump.
Secured site with wood coverings and safety barriers.
Demolition & Pipe Removal
Removed 18″ reinforced concrete casing around old services.
Cut and disposed of 40 ft of 4″ water main and 6″ fire main, plus internal galvanized lines.
Uninstalled and drained internal plumbing systems, including a thermal expansion tank.
Water Main Installation
Installed new 4” AWWA C900 PVC water line from property line to interior.
Added shut-off valves, copper fittings, and restrainers.
Reinforced internal piping with secure ceiling rod hangers and clamps.
Fire Line Installation
Replaced 6″ galvanized fire service with AWWA C900 PVC piping.
Installed new companion flange, nuts, bolts, and insulation for freeze protection.
Used rigid foam panels and leveled trench with gravel base for pipe stability.
Site Restoration & Cleanup
Cleared all debris including rocks, galvanized pipes, and construction waste.
Restored lawn and surrounding areas with light landscaping.
Removed all temporary structures, equipment, and caution materials.
